Be A Cold Boy

What is, is.
… die if you want, or take me.
Be a cold boy, if it suits you,
And laugh the whole time.
Be a cold boy, be careless;
To your heart you should answer.
Lie with the lowest low,
Speak with the highest you can.
Dont stop til you’ve won,
Or until you’ve had your fun.

Today’s prompt: “Find a poem in a language you don’t know, and translate it into English based on the look of the words and their sounds.” I chose a Yoruba poem by an anonymous author called ‘Ise Logun ise’. Because french is my second language I found that some words I phonetically interpreted from french and others from english. I liked it because Yoruba words are very sparing and monosyllabic, which resulted in a sparse, simple translation.

Ise Logun ise
… Mura si se re, ore mi
Ise la fi ndeni giga
Bi a ko ba reni fehin ti
Bi ole la ri
Bi a ko ba reni gbekele,
A te ra mo se ni.
Iya re le lowo lowoh
Baba re le lesin lekan
Ti o ba gbojule won
O te tan ni mo so fun o
