First Rain After Long Winter

Awake in bed to unfamiliar sound
first rain after long winter
the music makes my head come round

my thoughts break off and splinter
memories I thought long forgotten
first rain after long winter

white sheets of cooled cotton
heat broken by rainy season
memories I thought long forgotten

begin with a trickle then releasing
floods break this ancient levy
heat broken by rainy season

In dry sun when hearts are heavy
to winter’s freeze while we wait
for floods to break this ancient levy

The clock beside me says its late
awake in bed to unfamiliar sound
from winter’s freeze while we wait
the music makes my head come round
